HOTEL WITH A STORY

Before the border between Finland and Sweden was set on water, hard working but poor folks of Tornio valley managed to survive while the upper class lived of exploiting them. To fight and revolt against this unsustainable situation and on the contrary to the rule of bourgeoisie, Iisakki Mustaparta built a wooden ship with his peasant companions, packed the ship with tar and lifted their sails towards Stockholm – bringing back grains to nourish the famine ridden people of North. After being unguiltly imprisoned these outlaws we're freed and thus their honor was returned. Mustaparta was elected to state parliament where he continued his work for the poor and the oppressed.

Iisakki Mustaparta's story has been published as a novel ”Iisakki Mustaparta – the Pirate of Bothnian Bay” - unfortunately available only in Swedish or Finnish.
